I know if some people dont get the right diet they can actually send their body into keyosis- where the body breaks down muscle to fuel itself because it si either out fo fat or wants to save its ast reserves.

You are asking a question that could have many answers. A charlie horse could be caused by a single mineral deficiency, or by multiple minerals. It could be caused by lack of excercise. It could be caused by too much excercise. It could be from poor circulation in your legs. The only way to know for sure is to see a doctor.pp
When cramp happens it is the muscle going into a spasm ,because of lack of blood or moved wrong way to quick , if the muscles concerned keep cramping a lot you risk muscle damage which could then turn to muscle breakdown, But that would have to be over along period of time
. but cramps can be kept down by taking magnesium tablets.
I had cramps alot and now i get very very few
Plain and somple: No, Charlie horses do not cause muscle breakdown. You really don’t have to worry about that. If you get one, flex your foot towards you, hold for several seconds and release (do not point your toe, it gets worse). Repeat that pattern all the while gently massaging the cramp. And you are correct in saying why they occur. Always remember good hydration with cold liquids, or if your exercising hard try a sports drink that balances electrolytes, like Gatorade. Add potassium through foods like bananas, oranges, and yogurt. Sometimes a good multivitamin helps too! Remember to warm up prior to exercises and your cramps should subside.
