Drinking protein shakes during the day time?
I have started a new work out routine (exercise Monday night, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday morning). If I drink protein shakes during the day time, like a mid-morning and/or mid-afternoon snack, will this cause me to gain weight or will it be used as fuel since I do go to the gym? I was instructed by a trainer to try this protein rich diet for weight loss and muscle building/toning. Just thought I'd ask if anyone else has tried this out.

There are some simple rules to follow. Eat six times per day (a protein shake counts as eating). Eat the total number of calories that lets you stay in deficit if you are trying to lose weight or in excess if you are trying to gain muscle. Get the macronutrient content that has been proven the most healthy. A good guideline is 25% protein, 25% healthy fat, 50% carb. it doesn't really matter when you eat them as long as you don't go more than 2.5 hrs without consuming calories.
I'm not big on the protein shake thing. I feel like they aren't as healthy as they say they are and instead slow down you rmetabolism since they are packed with all this crap in one dose. I prefer to eat veggies, fruits, chicken, beans, eggs, etc. and get my nutrition from those. Protein shakes have lots of sugar and chemicals and i think in the long run you are better off eating. Plus it is more satisfying to eat a meal. it prevents you from binging later on. My advice, stick to meals and skip the protein shakes.
