They franschised cassel to trade him, no other reason. that will free up 14.5 and brady is 13 something. I wouldn't be suprised if maroney and watson are not returning next season. so at current their salary cap is probably high, but that will change.

Okay first of all this is exactly what happened when Bledsoe was injured. They took on Brady who ended up being one of the best QB"s of all time. We need Cassel just like we needed Brady. Who knows what he is going to do. I love the Patriots and all, but whos to say that Brady isnt done for good! As far as Moss and Welker, we need them as well. Welker is a young hard player. And Moss I am not quite sure about. When he is playing with Brady he is amazing, but when hes with Cassel, really not that impressive!

Cassel was only franchised as a security blanket and will be traded as soon as they are sure Brady is ready to go. The Patriots aren't really that far under the cap but they will be just fine because players take pay cuts to stay in New England because they know they have a great chance of winning a Super Bowl every season. With the exception of Asante Samuel who took the money and ran at the end of the 2007 season, I don't see any big names skipping town just because the Pats don't have the cap space to pay them huge money. The Patriots have formed an elite roster for a reason, that being because the players understand what loyalty and dedication to winning is all about, and they will accept 5 million a year in order to remain a part of that franchise.

The pats are one of the few teams who manage well and can pay people WELL but also keep enough people low enough to support the cap and make them happy

eg. Brady may be 20 mil(for example)
but other guy may only be 2 mil (also example)
