I am a 16 year old male and have recently decided to drastically alter my diet in order to help me achieve my goals as an athlete and a footballer.
My questions are:
- am I receiving enough vitamins and minerals each day?
- Is there enough fat and sugar in my diet?
- Are there any aspects of a healthy diet I am neglecting?
- Finally, would you reccomend any changes to my diet?
Keep in mind that I am training and playing football (soccer) for 2-3 hours each day.
Best answer will receive ten points.
My current diet (usually) consists of something like:
Breakfast:
4 weet-bix with 400mL of low-fat milk and honey a small banana
Snack before lunch:
Usually an apple, mandarin, and a few almonds or cashews
Lunch:
Wholegrain sandwich with either salmon or lettuce and cheese
Pre-Dinner Snack:
3 Wholegrain pieces of bread with only tomato (no butter, salt)
Dinner:
This meal obviously varies, but I often have beans, peas, carrots, chicken breast, potatoes, and rice, or vegetable soup.
After Dinner Snack:
Yoghurt (100g and 94cal), and a piece of Raisin bread (without butter if toasted)
I also take Vitamin C (1000mg) and Zinc (22mg) tablets daily, and constantly drink bottled water - about 2 litres each day.
I have eliminated almost all unhealthy foods from my diet: no chocolate, no cereals (except weet-bix), no juices, no cakes, no butter, no chips, no crackers, no cookies.. basically nothing that doesn't help fuel my body as an athlete.
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to your responses.
